Our Story
Mission
From mission flows every essential activity. Every thought, plan, activity, word and step is energized and empowered when the soul is consumed with its mission for life.
The mission of Nebraska Christian College is to glorify God through the ministry of educating people at the undergraduate level for His work. Nebraska Christian College seeks to equip people who will know the Christ revealed in the scripture and will present Him to their contemporaries.
Our desire “to know Christ and to make Him known” breathes life into every plan, course, conversation, ministry and extra-curricular activity of campus life. We seek to equip people who know the Christ revealed in the scriptures and will be able to present Him to their contemporaries.
Core values that guide this mission provide consistent framework for the administration, faculty, staff and students. These values are defined as:
- Worship. We seek to glorify God in all we do.
- Wisdom. We seek to impart the knowledge of God’s word and God’s world with humility.
- Witness. We seek to live lives of courage, clarity, and compassion so others will come to know Christ and make Him known.
- Work. We strive to give ourselves fully to God’s work so His purposes can be accomplished in this generation.
- Word. We believe the Bible is the revelation of God’s will and our full authority for life and ministry.
A Legacy of Transforming Ministry.
When God moves, remarkable things happen. This has been true in the life and history of Nebraska Christian College.
Guy B. Dunning, a courageous yet unimposing preacher/musician, was transformed by God’s grace and captivated with the need for lost people to be presented the clear message of Jesus Christ. Young people throughout Nebraska found stability through his clear biblical teaching and made courageous decisions to become evangelists, preachers and missionaries.
It was within this environment that a group of people began to dream a courageous dream. Gathered in Wymore, Neb., they prayed that God would help them start a Bible College, an institution of higher education that would equip people to know Christ and make Him known with courage, clarity and compassion.
God’s Answer to Bold Prayers
In 1945, Nebraska Christian College opened its doors in Norfolk, Neb. The first 50 years saw the college grow from an apartment house (which housed offices, chapel and classrooms) to a new classroom building (1957) and a new 85 acre campus in the northwest side of Norfolk. These years were marked by courageous leadership, transformed lives and the commissioning of graduates into ministry across the globe.
A new passion for Nebraska Christian College’s authentic mission led to another bold dream -relocation of its ministry from Norfolk to Omaha.
Relocation Realized
From 1997-2004 the relocation had been a dream, prayer, hope, plan, strategy, prayer and project. And in August of 2006, the relocation of Nebraska Christian College became a reality.
Eighty acres of land in southwest Omaha is now home to Nebraska Christian College’s new campus headquarters. Beautiful residence halls, classroom space, administrative offices, library space and apartments for married students now mark the beginning phase of a multi-phase campus development. This new campus is strategically located to be a dynamic resource center for equipping our leaders.
The Next Chapter
The future is exciting. A multi-million dollar campaign is being initiated to construct three Phase 2 buildings for the new campus: a) Student Center/Gym, b) Administrative Building and c) Worship Arts and Preaching Center. These buildings will increase the effective ministry and student development of the College’s mission.
A Spirit of Anticipation
There is an incredible sense of hope that permeates the campus. It’s almost tangible. The respected reputation of NCC is growing as God grants favor to spread. Even challenging obstacles cannot reduce the tremendous opportunity for the mission to be advanced.
We are aware that God has accomplished more than we could have imagined:
- astonishing generosity as the largest capital campaign in NCC history receives $3.7 million in commitments.
- unforgettable spirit (and temperatures) that accompanied the ground breaking for the construction on the new campus, July 24, 2005.
- The God-ordained timing of signing the contract for construction just days before natural disasters pushed oil and material prices higher.
- Total cost for Phase 1 came in at just over $112.00 per square foot.
- Sale of the Norfolk property.
- Thrilling attendance and spirit for the Dedication Day, Sept. 4, 2006.
All that we have seen and heard is really the prelude. It is satisfying to consider all that has taken place in NCC’s 62 year existence. But we feel gratitude mixed with a swell of great anticipation for what is ahead.
